The non-profit organisation was selected through an internal Allwyn initiative in which staff shortlisted charitable projects from across the UK that they believed deserved recognition and funding. Cariad Pet Therapy’s work came top of the shortlist, securing the £15,850 donation to help expand its growing projects.
The funding will support several of their services, including its therapy dog visits, loneliness support dogs, crisis response dogs, and pet food support service, all designed to strengthen the human-animal bond and support people facing loneliness, trauma, illness and hardship.
Following the award, this week Robert Thomas, Founder and CEO of Cariad Pet Therapy, was invited to speak at Allwyn’s Impact Day held at Meta HQ in London, where he shared their story and the difference National Lottery funding makes to communities.
During the session, Robert spoke about the transformative impact of therapy dogs and the powerful connection between humans and animals. He also highlighted their work supporting families and children at Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice, demonstrating how therapy dogs can bring comfort, emotional support and moments of joy during incredibly difficult times.
The presentation resonated deeply with the audience of Allwyn staff, prompting both laughter and tears as the impact of their work was brought to life.
Following the event, staff shared their reflections:
“We've had so much feedback from people saying how powerful and insightful your session was.”
“Your session was the highlight of my day. I found it incredibly powerful (and moving – tears were shed!), so thank you. And you’ve left a mark on all of us… My team are still talking about Cariad Pet Therapy!”
Robert Thomas, Founder and CEO of Cariad Pet Therapy, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to Allwyn and the staff who recognised our work and selected us for this generous donation. The support of those who play the National Lottery enables organisations like ours to bring comfort, connection and hope to people who need it most. It was an honour to share the story of our volunteers, our dogs, and the people whose lives are touched by the human-animal bond.”
Cariad Pet Therapy continues to expand its projects, supporting individuals experiencing loneliness, mental health challenges, crisis situations and financial hardship through the unique therapeutic power of dogs.
